Meine Empfehlung Deutsch Perfekt“Deutsch Perfekt” is a magazine for Deutsch als Fremdsprache (DaF for short; in English it’s German as a Foreign Language). If you are serious about learning German and want to spend some quality time with a magazine specifically for DaF, I *highly recommend* this magazine. I've subscribed to it since the very first issue. Originally i read it with the intention of learning more German and expanding my vocabulary, however now I read it to keep up my German skills and to stay in touch with Germanic culture. DP features the three, main German-speaking countries of Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

  • There are three levels of challenge in the magazine so whether you are a beginner or an advanced learner, there is plenty to read.
  • Every issue comes with a special section for youth entitled "deins!"

DICT.CC – my favorite, although I use both this one and Leo (below) when I'm translating. I used Leo for years and also love it!

LEO – Seemingly everyone's favorite.

BEOLINGUS – A student with a technical background prefers this one. Maybe you do, too?

COLLINS – German and four other languages.

Abbreviations – very important in German! – From Abk. (Abkurzung) to z.B. (zum Beispiel).

German Dialects

German DialectsGermany’s many, diverse dialects are a fascinating study in the previous kingdoms  that Germany used to be comprised of–formally. Informally, the regional dialects in Germany provide a beautiful kind of regional patriotism (as they are not likely to call themselves “patriots” or “nationalists” unless their political views are, shall we say, less than tolerant...).

The Deutsche Welle has created a wonderful resource on German dialects, which I highly recommend for intermediate and advanced learners. Click here to see Deutsche Welle's Dialekt Atlas!

Viel Spass dabei!
